OpenCart is an open source PHP-based web-based shopping cart system. It is one of the top popular shopping carts due to its international popularity. OpenCart supports more than 40 languages, including right-to-left languages such as Arabic and Hebrew. This makes it a natural pick when needing an eCommerce platform for an international audience. OpenCart is “Self-hosted” meaning you will have to obtain your own hosting solution.
Advantages of Using OpenCart
Multi Store Option
In OpenCart you are able to control multiple stores from a single administrative interface. Each “store” can use its own theme. This can cut down on the overhead to manage multiple sites. In addition, each store can have its own localized sittings.
Very Customizable
OpenCart is very customizable due to its open source nature. This will allow an experienced OpenCart such as myself to make modification based on the business requirements needed.
Disadvantages of Using OpenCart
Many of the open source advantages can become disadvantages for the business owner. These include, lack of live support, challenge to customize the shopping cart and responsibility for maintenance and hosting. OpenCart would be a better option for those businesses that have an available OpenCart web developer.
